Cine Displacement ENcoding imaging with Stimulated Echoes (cine-DENSE) confirms systolic myocardial dysfunction in asymptomatic patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: comparison with MR-tagging

چکیده
Introduction Diabetic cardiomyopathy contributes to increased cardiovascular mortality in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients and is characterized by a progressive alteration of left ventricular (LV) function. At a preclinical stage, a decrease in systolic myocardial strain has been suggested in echocardiographic studies. MRI techniques remain the gold standard for quantification of myocardial deformation but only a single study suggested systolic abnormalities in type 2 DM patients with evidence of diastolic dysfunction. MR-tagging is the most common technique for strain calculation using CMR but is intrinsically limited in measuring transmural variations. Cine-Displacement ENcoding Imaging with Stimulated Echoes(DENSE) has been recently proposed as an alternative that benefits from an increased spatial resolution.

Regional myocardial function: advances in MR imaging and analysis.
Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (MR) imaging can provide three-dimensional analysis of global and regional cardiac function with great accuracy and reproducibility. Quantitative assessment of regional function with cardiac MR imaging previously was limited by long acquisition times and time-consuming analysis. The use of steady-state free precession cine MR imaging substantially improves asse...

A navigator-gated 3D spiral cine displacement encoding with stimulated echoes (DENSE) pulse sequence for imaging 3D myocardial mechanics was developed. In addition, previously described 2D postprocessing algorithms including phase unwrapping, tissue tracking, and strain tensor calculation for the left ventricle (LV) were extended to 3D. These 3D methods were evaluated in five healthy volunteers...
متن کاملMRI of Longitudinal Myocardial Strain using Multislice Cine DENSE with Through-plane Displacement Encoding
Introduction Cine DENSE (Displacement Encoding with Stimulated Echoes) is a quantitative MRI method for imaging myocardial displacement and strain. Typically, cine DENSE images of the heart are acquired in a short-axis plane, and the in-plane circumferential and radial displacements and strains are measured. However, quantitative imaging of longitudinal myocardial motion is also important, as i...

Background Post-processing methods have been developed to quantify myocardial strain from steady-state free-precession (SSFP) cine images. In the left ventricle (LV), global strain measurements from SSFP in healthy volunteers and in some types of heart disease compare favorably with myocardial tagging as a reference. We compared heart deformation analysis (HDA) of SSFP images and cine Displacem...
متن کاملAutomated cardiac motion estimation from 3D Cine DENSE MRI
Background 3D cine displacement encoding with stimulated echoes (DENSE) directly encodes tissue displacement into MR phase data, providing a comprehensive 3D view of cardiac motion and strain. Unfortunately, 3D cine DENSE motion analysis presently requires manually delineated anatomy. An automated analysis would reduce interobserver variability, improve measurement throughput, and simplify data...
